A hands-on celebration of the makers, shapers and creators keeping traditional skills alive.

Step through the gates of Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village and experience the sights, sounds and skills of another time. Wreckfest brings together rare trades, traditional craftsmanship, live demonstrations and family activities in a lively festival atmosphere.

Across the Village, see skilled makers at work and discover the knowledge, patience and craftsmanship behind trades that were once part of everyday life. Watch hand shearers, coopers, woodturners, potters, spoon carvers, spinners, weavers, embroiderers, felters and other skilled craftspeople demonstrate techniques passed down through generations.

There is plenty of action too. Hear the Warrnambool Garrison fire Flagstaff Hill’s historic eighty-pound cannon, explore displays, watch rope making by hand and discover traditional skills up close.

Families can get involved with hands-on activities including wooden toy building with the Warrnambool Men’s Shed, while Rikali canoe rides offer a different way to experience the site.

Take time to wander the cobblestone streets, enjoy festival food and soak up the atmosphere, with live music adding to the day.

Wreckfest Rare Trades Festival is a celebration of craftsmanship, community and the skills that helped shape the past — brought to life at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.
