EVENT TICKETING

Warrnambool Storytelling Festival at Flagstaff Hill

SPECIAL - THE SILENT PIANOS OF WARRNAMBOOL & THE WESTERN DISTRICT WITH PETER HUMPHREYS (17 JUNE)

The Silent Pianos are those instruments that are no longer played. But while they might seem silent, they still have many stories to share. Peter Humphreys from Pianos Recycled will present a collection of stories of pianos in Australian history with a focus on the pianos along Victoria’s Inbound Coast. The collections of Flagstaff Hill and the Warrnambool Art Gallery are home to two such instruments Peter highlights in his talk. Numbers are limited.

SPECIAL - THE HISTORY OF MRS SIBILLA KUCKS WITH LORRAINE DE KOK (20 JUNE)

A two-part talk about the life, business and family of Mrs Sibilla Kucks. Beginning on Liebig Street where the original Kucks family shops were built in the 1870’s and then moving to Mrs Kucks Confectionery Shop at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village which was created in her honour. She sold sweets and fancy cakes from her Liebig Street shop from 1873 until the 1880’s. Her shop was Warrnambool’s earliest dedicated confectionery shop where people were tempted by the displays of brightly coloured sweets in shiny glass jars. Includes a sample pack of sweet treats.

SPECIAL - FOLK VERSUS OF THE WEST WITH PAULINE KNOX (22 JUNE)

Enjoy afternoon tea while listening to poetic readings by Pauline Knox including Women of the West & The Sea Wife. As you are sipping your tea and listening to Pauline’s mesmerising voice and passionate delivery, each line of the folk verses will tell stories of hope and despair and transport you to places full of emotion and drama.

SPECIAL - TALES IN TAILS WITH JOHN HARRISON (29 JUNE)

Dressed in his tails and top hat, John will interpret traditional children’s stories, and share insightful maritime stories of his ancestors including a sailor on the Barabool (which shipwrecked near Wilsons Promontory on a voyage from Sydney), and Assistant Lighthouse Keeper George Swanson and his family who lived on Middle Island.
